Bansko ski hotels and holiday packages

So tell me about it...

The town of Bansko is situated nearby the river Glazne (left feeder of Mesta River) in the north- eastern foot of Pirin, right bellow the highest and most beautiful part of the mountain. Its name comes from the old Bulgarian word “ban”, which means “master”. It is just 160 kilometers away from Sofia and 6 kilometers from Razlog. Bansko has developed into a favourite ski & snowboard destination, thanks to the excellent ski facilities combined with the unique architecture and history.

The town of Bansko is located on 925 m. above sea level, and its skiing area is on 2000-2600 m. The Pirin mountain has a predominantly Alpine character and highest peak in the area is Vihren 2914 m.

The ski pistes are located in two main ski centres Chalin Valog (1100-1600 m) and Shiligarnika (1700-2500 m). They are approximately 10 km above the town on the northern slopes of Pirin, and are easily accessible for approximately 25 minutes ride on the new Gondola lift which starts from Bansko. The total length of the marked pistes is 70 kilometers.

The maximum pleasure from the various ski pistes is guaranteed by 12 Kassbohrer slope maintenance vehicles. Thus the slopes offer runs and tracks for all types of skiers and will suit both beginners and experts.

Beginners

Bansko is a great place for first-time skiers and snowboarders. The ULEN Ski-school has some of Bulgaria’s best instructors and the ULEN Rent-a-ski offers the latest in ski and snowboard equipment. This, combined with the availability of baby-drags and plenty of blue runs, has instituted the resort as the place where many have become enchanted with the magic of winter sports and where even more keep returning.

Intermediates

Plenty of blue and red runs, suitable to intermediate skiers, make the resort a very good choice.

Experts

While some red runs and the Alberto Tomba black run should keep most experts busy, Bansko is probably more popular with experts for its great offerings of extreme and off-piste skiing.

Snowboarders

For Snowboarders there are long tree-lined runs and a brand new dedicated to snowboarders area with a half-pipe facility 90 metres high by 16 metres wide.

Entertainment

At the end of the day, for a truly happy ending, the Happy End restaurant by the Gondola base station turns into a night club whose lively atmosphere is only rivalled by the Amnesia discotheque in the center of town. Other clubs, such as the Night Club in hotel Pirin, the Karaoke Bar in hotel Bansko, the Buddha Bar club and No Name discotheque, add up a modern flavour to this town of otherwise conservative moods. For a quieter night out the Bowling arena in hotel Strazhite might be a very good alternative.

Gourmet & nightlife

Bansko offers a wide variety of choices among old-style pubs and taverns, restaurants, disco clubs and coffee shops in the old town. There are  over one hundred mehanas (local taverns), offering finger-licking traditional cuisine. The Dedo Peve Tavern offers the delicious Bansko cuisine in a historical house built in 1820. In Milush Tavern you can taste many Bansko specialities such as  "chomlek", "Banski staretz", "sudjuk".

Extras

Besides the famous local church, St. Trinity, there are many historical, architectural, and cultural monuments in Bansko, including the houses of many famous Bulgarians from the period of the Bulgarian Revival. Both winter and summer, Bansko hosts a number of festivals, including the Bansko Jazz Fest and the Festival of Local Traditions.

Trips and Excursions

Bansko offers many interesting trips: to Melnik and the Rozhen Monastery, to the Rila Monastery, to Sofia, Plovdiv and the Monastery of Bachkovo, to Sandanski and Velingrad.
