Borovets is the oldest and the biggest mountain resort in Bulgaria which has often gathered the skiing elite of the world. Situated at 1350 m above sea level on the northern slopes of Rila Mountain among age-old pine woods, Borovets is located at the foot of peak Moussala (2925 m) - the highest one on Balkan Peninsula. Borovets is easily accessible, being at a distance of 73 km from Sofia and 126 km from Plovdiv. The town of Samokov is only 10 km down the road from the resort.
Borovets is the Alpine resort among Bulgarian winter resort, providing excellent opportunities for the whole range of winter sports - from the Alpine sports to cross-country skiing, ski-jumps and biathlon. The resort has twice hosted World Cup Alpine skiing rounds, while its biathlon track is one of the best in the world.
Skiing at Borovets resort takes place in three areas: Borovets, Yastrebets and Markujika. Cross-country and biathlon tracks are located 2 km away from the resort together with the cross-country tuition tracks. Borovets ski centre is serviced by well organized lift system , inclusive Gondola lift. The slopes of Borovets have a permanent snow cover, more than a meter and a half thick, from November to May. The slopes and runs are maintained in perfect condition and are designated with international markings and multilingual signs.

Beginners
A great resort for beginners with a high standard of English speaking instruction and gentle nursery slopes.
Intermediates
Borovets is a very good resort for intermediates. The well-planned lift system includes the 3-mile, six-person Yastrebets gondola, which opens up a wealth of enjoyable runs.
Experts
For the expert skier there is the testing World Cup run, one of the more challenging pistes on the Yastrebets area or the excellent skiing through the trees and off-piste.
Snowboarders
Borovets is one of the highest rideable areas in Europe with some well varied terrain. There are 45 kms of piste split into three areas with open pistes and some fun lines through the trees. The best spots to head for are those above 2500m and the runs under the gondola.
Children aged eight and older can use the Borosport Ski School, with the Borosport Day Care for those aged between four and eight, which offers ski lessons for two hours daily and full-day packages. Other fun activities include riding across the surrounding hills in a handmade traditional horse-drawn sleigh, or taking a guided snowmobile tour.
