So tell me about it...

Tignes is one of Europe's highest resorts and offers the best snow conditions in the Alps with excellent snow cover and a place to ski almost year round thanks to the high-altitude Grand Motte glacier. An excellent lift system links the resort to its neighbour Val d'Isère and together they form the vast ski area known as Espace Killy, with 193 miles (310km) of lift-linked trails and an area that is regarded as one of Europe's best and most beautiful ski areas.

L'Espace Killy is known for its incredible off-piste with good lift access. Also there is a half pipe, boardercross course, some great freeriding & the 1992 Olympics downhill course should you be feeling up for it.

Tignes is made up of three villages: Val Claret is the highest and is situated at the foot of the glacier, Tignes Le Lac with its stunning setting on the lake is the largest, and the modern Tignes Le Lavachet is further down. Two small villages below, Tignes Les Brévières and Tignes Les Boisses, are directly linked to the ski area and provide a more traditional atmosphere with charming chalets, narrow streets and picturesque churches. All five villages are connected by a free bus service.

Entertainment

Le Lac and Le Val Claret are the liveliest areas in Tignes. Popular haunts include the Crowded House with the Blue Girl Disco and Les Caves Du Lac disco in Le Lac running through in to the small hours. Other favourites for northern Europeans are Harry's Bar and Grotte du Yeti. Also the resort's facilities include cinema showing two films daily - some films in English, some French, and Europe's highest bowling alley, with ten lanes.

Gourmet & nightlife

There are several dozen restaurants in each of Le Lac and Le Val Claret. For local Savoyard specialities, including fondue, try La Ferme des Capucines in Lavachet, La Bergerie du Stelvis or l'Eteilbu in le Lac, La Chaumière in Les Almes or the Brasserie du Petit Savoyard in Val Claret. Gastronomic meccas spread throughout the resort include Le Clin D'Oeil in Le Lac, L'Arbina or Le Chalet in Le Lac and Le Ski d'Or in Val Claret. There are crêperies, pizzerias and American style fast food outlets in both Le Lac and Val Claret . More exotic options include the Miyako Japanese restaurant in Val Claret and Mexican at Daffy's Bar.

Shopping

Tignes has better shopping than many on the modern French resorts, with the bonus of a traditional market twice weekly. Apart from numerous sports shops spread around the different centres, there are several dozen grocery outlets, numerous boulangeries and patisseries and plenty of stores selling French fashion as well as local products and gifts.
