Val d' Isere ski hotels and holiday packages
So tell me about it...
Val d’Isere and the neighbouring resort of Tignes combine to form the Espace Killy ski area which is named after Jean Claude Killy who learnt to ski there and went on to win at the 1968 Winter Olympics. The Espace Killy is the highest extended ski terrain in the Alps and this offers the best snow guarantee you can get. Val d’Isère is a very comfortable place to learn to ski with free lifts and nursery slopes in the centre of the village and confidence boosting greens above resort level.
The Espace Killy is well known as the ‘promised land’ for intermediates. There is mile upon mile of wide gentle sunny pistes and many challenging red runs for those who want to expand their skiing horizons. More advanced skiers migrate from around the globe to challenge the steep slopes, bumps and endless off-piste.
Long rapid climbs to a height of 3500 meters allow extended uninterrupted vertical descents and guaranteed snow. For a quick run down of the resort’s vital statistics and the piste map, have a look at the links above. Once you are in resort, ski guides will be on hand to guide you around this fantastic ski area showing you the best pistes, shortest lift queues, the sunniest lunch spots and the best place for an après ski beer.

Entertainment
Val d'Isère comes alive at night as its many dazzling bars over flow with a festive atmosphere. Places not to be missed include Dicks T-Bar offering happy hour pints, Cafe Face and the bar of the moment Pier Paul Jack. For those of you looking to have as much fun off the slopes as on, head to the fashionable Graal nightclub where DJs spin the discs until the early hours.
Gourmet & nightlife
With more than 75 restaurants to choose from Val d'Isère once again offers something for everyone, including fast food and regional specialities. 1789 is a good choice for the latter, whilst La Table de l'ours is the only restaurant that has a Michelin star and one of the ten or so choices for gourmet cuisine. International tastes are catered for by Bananas, serving Mexican, Ruitor for more unusual Scandinavian menus and Chez Paolo or Casa Scara for Italian Cuisine.
Shopping
There's a shop for everyone in Val. Some of the favourites include Billabong, Misty Fly, Quiksilver, Poudreuse, Napapijri and Hors Limites. Fat Face and White Stuff all feature.
The Children’s Village offers a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities for kids aged 3-13 on a half-daily, daily or weekly basis. Le Petit Poucet will run your kids to and from ski school and look after them until the lifts close. For ultimate flexibility, try private nannying service Les Farfadets.
Beginners
Beginnners are well suited in this resort with a nursery slope right in the centre, easily accessible the green runs on Solaise, especially the Madeleine are great for first time skiers, you could even try the longer wide pistes at Col de l'Iseran. As a beginner in Val d'Isere we strongly recommend you join the ski school otherwise you might find yourself on a green run which in any other resort would most definately be a blue or a red.
Intermediates
Val d'Isère as part of the Espace Killy offers huge potential of big kilometer skiing for intermediates, with long ski runs, fast lifts and typically good snow conditions. Bellevarde is the best area to head for with a mixture of long cruising blue and red runs to suit all levels of intermediate skier.
Experts
The main three ski areas of Bellevard, Solaise and Col de l’Iseran each offer superb terrain for experts. In Val d'Isere you could stick to the red runs and still be satified but Bellevard has some famous black runs including 'le Face' the Olympic downhill run that will thrill even the most experience skier. Head up the first lifts of the day to guarantee the piste is groomed or try your luck in the afternoon and be prepared for moguls.
Snowboarders
Le Fornet is absolutely magical in the powder and offers clean and open powder fields from right up high on the Glacier - stretching all the way back down to the mid station and then through the trees and back to base level. Beginner snowboarders will also find many well linked, easy trails and more sedate powder descents to have a whirl on. There are fun parks with half pipes and Boarder Cross, and jumps of all sizes.
