Val di Fassa ski hotels and holiday packages

So tell me about it...

The Val di Fassa, in the heart of the Dolomites, occupies the northeastern corner of Trentino, on the borders of the provinces of Bolzano (Alto Adige) and Belluno (Veneto). Val di Fassa lies in the heart of the Dolomites, 300km from Milan. This is a long curving valley of mostly small villages and small ski areas, linked together by ski bus. Located in the 20km-long Fassa valley, it boasts some of the most stunning scenery in Europe. Farming is a major industry here and the ancient language of Ladin is still spoken in the area. Val di Fassa's skiing is linked into the vast Dolomiti Superski lift pass, which also includes the Sella Ronda circuit. Canazei and Campitello are the access points for the circuit, which can take around five hours to complete. There is terrain to suit all levels of ability and the choice and standard of restaurants is much raved about. In winter, the Val di Fassa is first and foremost for skiing, but it is also an enchanting place bursting with natural wonders, fun and cultural interest. While nature is sleeping under the snow, the fun runs wild on the slopes by day and in the pubs and discos by night. An unforgettable holiday among the most beautiful mountains in the world.

Gourmet & nightlife

The villages of Val di Fassa have a great range of bars and restaurants to relax in after a long day on the slopes. The jolly atmosphere and warm welcome of each venue compliment the superb skiing in the area. There are a good choice of cafés and restaurants that offer a variety of cuisine. The light and spicy Ladin dishes are excellent, as is the fine Trentino wine. Visitors to Canazei can sample the cuisine in restaurants such as La Stalla, El Pael and El Cervena. A cheerful, fun spirit is at the heart of the best bars in Val di Fassa. Venues such as Stua dei Ladins, Giardino delle Rose and Lieber Augustin are particularly popular. The Catinetta disco in Canazei provides dancing into the night and, like all après ski in Val di Fassa, has a laid-back spirit that helps make for a great evening.

Shopping

The choice of shops is widest in Canzei but most of the villages have at least 10 shops each offering a good choice of ski and sports clothing and equipment, fashions, groceries and souvenirs. Shops with hand-crafted wood items, felts and other fabrics, home decorations and wooden furnishings and other hand-crafted items transformed into decorative pieces. Other popular goods include local gastronomic specialities such as cheeses, cold meats, the region's mushrooms, jams and pastries.

Extras

The sports opportunities are extraordinary: paragliding, hang gliding, ice hockey and ice skatiing, bowling, archery, squash, tennis, inline skating, etc. Also recommendable is a visit to the "Eghes Centre", an indoor swimming pool styled after the Roman thermal springs. Or go for a walk on some of the 20 km of prepared winter hiking and snowshoeing path.
